Training Course

Lean data governance:
keep it smart and simple!

In collaboration with Xebia Training, an organization specializing in IT training courses for the past 15 years. This training course is for those who wish to understand the importance of setting up a data governance as well as what its’ key elements are and how to implement them.

Profiles related to data such as the managers (CDOs) and the users (Data engineers, business analysts, etc.), will know how to find the answers relative to the organization allowing an efficient framework while facilitating the valuation of the information.

Lean Data Governance Training : The Program

The context

The main concepts will be explained at the beginning of the training course for a better insight on the subject as well as a better understanding of the complexity of the exercise and the reasons for its mixed success.

  • Definition(s)
Clarifications on what is often heard and what really defines data governance.
  • Consequences of not having data governance
The understanding of what data governance can bring to your organization by illustrating the consequences of its absence.
  • Today’s challenges
Why today’s data governance cannot be yesterday’s.
  • Defensive/offensive governance
Our vision on the implementation of a “smart” and “simple” governance.
  • Lean data governance
The strengths, weaknesses and an eventual complementarity of each approach.

The objectives

This second part will focus on the challenges, constraints and the main principles of each one’s final objectives.

  • Know your data
What seems to be simple may not actually be so for many reasons. We detail in this part the objective, the main barriers and how to lift them.
  • Favor value creation
Adding value to your data is part of the most obvious objectives, however a proper set up of a number of elements are required.
  • Guarantee compliance with regulations
An aspect that cannot be honored without a structured approach.

Workshop : Self-evaluation / matrix

In light of all of the elements that were presented, the participants will carry out an exercise while completing a matrix covering all of the main actions used in companies in a data governance framework.

This part will be a workshop/exchange between collaborators that will present a possible framework and strategy to adopt/adapt to. This discussion will allow everyone to identify the right paths to take in order to overcome any obstacles.

Roles, rights, and duties

There are different roles for each in data governance, and they will not have the same tasks or expectations. We clarify the main roles by presenting not only the duties but also the rights everyone has.

Make it Simple and Smart

The key elements, the order of execution and the necessary means are presented in this part. The aspects relative to the rules (definition, set up), the security, the actors involved and the data are also presented.

Any change must be followed up by an effective communication for a cohesive team, which is a fundamental element for success.

Facilitating with the right tools

Some actions may require the use of tools in order to facilitate their implementation or to increase their efficiency. We go over all of the possibilities.

Take away: What actions to take next for a successful implementation checklist

This checklist serves as a guide to what the first elements to activate in order to initiate a “Simple and Smart” Data Governance.
